DEFINITION:

 

The High School Paraprofessional shall be an employee member of the school staff designated by the Superintendent of Schools.  The High School Paraprofessional is responsible for assisting the Classroom Teacher(s) with the supervision of students while learning academics. Paraprofessionals work with students individually or in small groups, provides instruction and support appropriate to the individual students’ learning level(s) in and out of the content classroom.

 

PREREQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Education beyond high school diploma required
  2. Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  3. Experience with multilingual students learning English 
  4. Experience working with multiple languages and cultures
  5. Excellent oral, written, and communication skills
  6. Bilingual or multilingual preferred
  7. Demonstrates dependability, initiative, responsibility, intuitiveness, and is well-organized
  8. A desire to work with complex learners and the ability to work effectively with others
  9. Ability to physically provide assistance for multilingual students as assigned
  10. Citizenship, residency or work visa required

SALARY:

 

In accordance with the Woburn Teachers Association and Woburn School Committee Collective Bargaining Agreement

 

DUTIES:

  1. Assist and support professional staff in implementing English Language curriculum, programs, and WIDA Standards for students learning English throughout their school day
  2. Assist in the implementation of curricula modifications and EL instructional strategies and techniques to provide academic assistance and support to individuals and small groups in and/or out of the content classroom
  3. Prepare and organize materials and instructional space to support students
  4. Reinforce reading, writing, listening, and speaking of academics to help students improve their academic and social English language skills
  5. Assist students with understanding school expectations, specifically new students, as needed
  6. Support Teachers with ACCESS testing, paperwork, and record keeping as necessary
  7. Help form close home-school partnerships with school based multilingual families
  8. Provide classroom, lunch, bus, arrival/dismissal and recess supervision duties as assigned
  9. Assume other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Principal and/or the EL Teacher
  10. All other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Superintendents, Principal, and/or EL Coordinator
